Achim Stiermann is an artist from southern Germany. He was born in Nuremberg in 1975 and grew up in Augsburg. In 1998 he moved to Vienna where he graduated at the Academy of Fine Arts. He lived in Augsburg from 2006 to 2011 and currently lives in Berlin.

Stiermann is often engaged in kinetic installation. His central material is drinking straws, with which he developed a form of plugging and connecting technology. This has then been advanced to perfection. His moving objects „Light Gravity Machine“ and „Icosidodecahedron Slingshot“ were shown during solo exhibitions in Augsburg in 2008 and 2009. His work has been awarded several times, with the Art Prizes of the City of Augsburg (2005) and the Augsburg county (2008). A grant from the Austrian government enabled him to stay in Chengdu/China for three months in 2007.
Stiermann consistenly presents his work in public spaces: In 2013 he has been invited to the festival „Ten Days“ in Styria where he installed „Beach Balls“ in the river Feistritz.

Stiermann not only works as a sculptor. At first he was engaged in painting and drawing, until he turned toward the moving image in 1995. In different cooperations the movies „Umleitung“ (deviation) and „Fluid“ came to existence, as well as works with the live video group „Quirl“.
During his time in Vienna he produced several videos pieces. The most comprehensive creation, Man OS 1, arose through coprodution with Roland Rauschmeier. This then led them to exhibitions in Antwerp, Paris, Dresden and Nagoya. The movie received several awards.

As a consequence to his engagement with moving image, Stiermann finally began to include movement in his sculptural objects and installations. He is currently intensifying his endevours towards this goal.
